This full-day workshop is based on the training requirements stated in the Occupational Health
and Safety Act and related regulations.
CLASSROOM THEORY COMPONENT (MORNING)
- Duties as stated in the Act & Industrial Regulations
- Principles of safely operating a lift truck
- Pre-startup procedures
- Forklift truck stability
- Driving hazards in your workplace
- Safely handling loads
- Working with electric batteries*
*if used in your workplace
PRACTICAL OPERATIONS COMPONENT (AFTERNOON)
The driving skills of each participant will be evaluated by the instructor and at least one of the other participants. During the evaluation phase each participant will demonstrate his/her ability to complete the variety of skills required by their regular job to safely operate a fork lift truck in your workplace.
TRAINING METHODS
To ensure maximum involvement participants will be encouraged to help with demonstrations and to share experiences related to the use of fork lift trucks in your workplace. Overheads will be used in the workshop.
The content of this workshop will be adapted to match equipment used and the loads moved in your workplace.
CERTIFICATES
All successful candidates will receive a forklift truck operator certificate.
CLASS SIZE
Optimum number is 8 operators. Supervisors may wish to attend the theory component to comply with the definition of “competent” as required in the Act.
